For the umpteenth time and more to come, I am a witness to the blessed peace and beauty of the Singapore Botanic Gardens that most working people do not get to enjoy and if they do find themselves in these gardens, they probably do not think that such a garden is necessary to the well-being of the country. For me, I pray for the well-being of our parks and gardens because they reflect our well-being too.

The Swan Lake.

The first time I see the flowers of this water plant.

A swan drifting by like an angel drying its wings. So beautiful.

Strange way for a flower to bloom - on a leaf!

My friend said these colours make her think of Jamaica.

Feel the life of the flowers

hydrated by the rain

dreading the impending heat

living the moment

not thinking about the future

Exuding a love for life

Beautiful for now

Pearls, beads of tears

coat the petals while the flowers wait

Or perhaps they do not

for flowers do not worry

They shed their temporary persona

of being flowers when the time comes

To assume a greater responsiiblity

to perpetuate its kind

A duty that bears fruit when the flower disappears

and I move on to look for other flowers

Still enjoying their youth

that are at their most attractive and most alluring

Sweet, subtle fragrance exudes

from this natural bouquet

Their distant cousins beckon me on

I admire their differences

And I paused to take

a photo of someone's imitation of grass

beautiful in its own way

then moved on to go home

and leave the greenery of this park

It has been some time since I last visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Not much has changed except the addition of a new waterfall in the Ginger Garden that I was delighted to discover. Greenery is good for the soul

I do not like green things. Green clothes are what I avoid wearing. Yet one of the characters of my Chinese name means "green in appearance". Oh my I wonder why! Perhaps it has to do with my affinity to nature. So there is a reason for everything in life.

Green reflections.

Green, the supporting colour so that these Bismark palms are outstanding.

A green background helps you to focus on the purple flowers and the white parasites on the stems.

Green Moss makes interesting texture.

Green against the sunlight is what I like.

Beautiful illustrations of the Ginger, banana and heliconia families.

This tree must have been pretty old when it was chopped down.

The foxtail palm and red fruits.

Bananas that could feed a troop of monkeys for days.

Finally, green is cool.

as it breathes

Patterns on leaves
Waiting and knowing
that I will not see
the bud bursting out
in celebration of a new minute
Dragonflies and water lilies
come and go, come and go
Our time will come and then we will go
Dragonflies die and so do we.

Coffee, PC and me

One cool afternoon I sat at a cafe at the Singapore Botanic Garden spending time with myself. For an hour and a half I sat sipping my $5 Latte contained in a characterless white mug with my pc for company and park visitors to divert my attention now and then from the screen.

Here, you have to make sure that it looks exactly like what it shows in the picture.

See, even the fungi are having fun under the shade of a Sealing Wax Palm.
